Education
Bachelor'a Degree and Single Subject English Credential obtained from California State University, Long Beach.
Since I was five years old, I knew that I wanted to be an educator. After seventeen years of school and hard work, I finally landed my dream job. I became a credentialed teacher at a young age, and I believe this was the best decision of my life. I have not only fallen in love with the field of education, but I have also developed a love and passion for helping others. Making a difference is an experience that offers more than gratitude- it gives me the strength to continue helping others succeed.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English Education as well as a Single Subject Teaching Credential from California State University Long Beach. With my California Credential, I am considered to be a highly-qualified teacher. I have more than 600 hours of observation, volunteer work, and tutoring experience working with students and adults. I served as a substitute teacher in California for two years, where I taught grades K-12 in three different school districts. I held multiple long-term teaching assignments for teachers out on leave, and I completed my Student Teaching at the same school where I became a temporary teacher for two years. I instructed 9th and 11th grade English for two consecutive years before becoming a substitute teacher. I now reside in Savannah, GA, where I relocated with my fiancé, and I am looking to ingrain myself in the Savannah community.
During my two years as a substitute, I participated in all district workshops and meetings in order to stay up-to-date with classroom practices and pedagogy. I believe in a student-centered teaching approach, and I understand that every student has different learning abilities. I understand that each student works at a different pace and has individual needs. Classroom resources need to vary in order to create an equitable learning experience for students, and often that is seldom found in classrooms today. With technology-based instruction and 21st-century practices, it can be difficult for students to keep up with their peers. This is why tutoring is held in such high regard.
I believe that as educators, we learn a lot from our students. For that reason, I welcome feedback and constructive criticism from parents and students to help me become more acquainted with each individuals' learning abilities. I do not believe in providing negative feedback to students, but rather constructive feedback in conjunction with positive solutions. Student's do not learn when they are punished for making mistakes; they learn best and grasp concepts when they are encouraged and rewarded with feedback that is necessary for advancement.
Whether you are looking to better your reading, writing, speaking, or listening skills or you need help studying for an upcoming English exam, I am here to help. I have worked with all ages, including ESL students and adults. I will find the best way to help you succeed! I can offer a quiet and comfortable tutoring environment, but I am also willing to travel to another location if that is best for you.
I look forward to working with you and helping you succeed in your studies!
