My name is Jeannemarie and I have been teaching for 21 years. I began my career as a first grade teacher in NYC public schools. I taught K, 1, 2, and 3. I later became a reading specialist because so many students in my classes struggled to learn to read. After I accepted a job as a reading teacher I found several of my students were struggling with decoding and was provided the training in Orton Gillingham. I started using the methods and found that the students were finding success using the multi sensory approach.. A few years later I was trained as a Level 1 Certified Wilson teacher. I began teaching this to groups of students in the public school I work in. Then last year I had a student who was reading for step 7 and so I learned the upper steps and am now certified in Level 2 of Wilson. This was a year of training and studying and working 1:1 with a student. I began Wilson with this young man in 4th grade and taught him through 6th grade. This year he is in the middle school and has achieved honor roll and is truly enjoying reading and has become extremely confident. I believe in what I do and truly find a lot of joy in teaching.
Another important thing you should know about me is that I have 2 children of my own, ages 16 and 14. I am also an aunt to 18 adults and a great aunt to 6 children. I am a PTA mom. I enjoy skiing, hiking and of course reading.
