Pending-Board Certification in Behavior Analysis
I am a licensed teacher for Birth through Grade 6 in both General Education and Students with Disabilities. Presently I support students with Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Emotional Disturbance as they attend general education classes as part of an inclusion program. I believe we are all "snowflakes" and therefore instruction should be individualized to address the needs of each student. Instruction should consider the students strengths and interests which can then be used as a springboard for acquiring new skills. I am experienced in Individualized Education Plans (IEP's), behavior plans and modifying and adapting curriculum.
Most students benefit from additional support and training in social skills and self-regulation strategies both of which I am experienced in teaching.
Board certification as a Behavior Analyst is pending until September 2010 when I will take the examination. Applied Behavior Analysis is the only approach sanctioned by the Food and Drug Administration for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and is recognized by many insurance plans. Although Applied Behavior Analysis is often associated with Autism, it is an evidenced based scientific approach to behavior change (either increase or decrease) for all walks of life.
