Education
New York University, Bachelor of Arts
Manhattanville College, Masters in Teaching
I started my career as a journalist, book author, and editor, contributing to publications including Rolling Stone and the New York Times, as well as publishing six books on a wide range of topics -- from bicycling to Southern hip-hop.
A little over a decade ago, I decided I wanted to use my writing expertise to help others, so I got my Masters in Teaching and became a high school/middle school English teacher. I've taught in a range of schools in the Bronx and Westchester, and have covered every grade from 7th through 12th.
In addition to teaching the standard English curriculum (literature, analytical reading, expository writing), I have taught classes in Composition (essay writing and grammar), Creative Writing, and Journalism.
In addition, I have experience with test prep for the English Regents exam and New York middle school state tests, as well as the SATs and ACTs. And I have done both private tutoring and served as a Writing Mentor in my school -- part of a program where students meet with mentors one-on-one to go over any writing assignments they have.
With all this experience, I can tailor a tutoring program to best suit your needs. I look forward to learning how I can be of help to you.
