We have to remember that in the critical reading/verbal section of the SAT, most students will NOT know 90% of the vocabulary words they encounter. In an era where students say to me two weeks before the SAT: "By the way Miss Robbins, I have never read a book in my life. I have spark-noted it all the way through my AP classes..." This is frightening!
Those students cannot use one of my favorite SAT tutoring tips for building a fabulous vocabulary. However, my other students can:)
1.) Learn seven new synonyms a day. Barrons publishes a book called THE HOT WORD LIST! It has been my favorite for years:)
2.) For every NEW SAT word write a sentence using the name of your FAVORITE ATHLETE/CELEBRITY, FRIEND, or RELATIVE.
